While embellished gowns and massive diamonds take center stage at most awards shows, Wednesday’s ESPYs red carpet was all about men and their bare chests.
Perhaps as a way to cope with the sweltering Los Angeles heat, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills wore a custom red three-piece suit by Damari Savile, but opted to show off his tattooed pecs instead of wearing a shirt.
Mills’ look was downright tame compared to his teammate Rodney McLeod’s. The Eagles safety ditched a vest in favor of going completely topless under his purple suit, and proudly flaunted his washboard abs for photographers.
Other menswear highlights from the ESPYs? Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon‘s embellished white jacket, new Laker JaVale McGee’s floral tux and $1,290 Gucci fanny pack and breakthrough athlete winner Donovan Mitchell’s Spiderman-themed suit (a nod to the Utah Jazz guard’s nickname, “Spida”).
Move over, ladies!
The biggest names in sports rocked the red carpet at the 2018 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday, and while there were some stunning looks from female athletes, presenters and attendees — Alison Brie, Alex Morgan and Ciara, just to name a few — it was the men who truly showed out, rocking bold prints and bright colors on everything from eye-catching suits to high-fashion fanny packs.
Here’s just a few of our favorite looks from the stylish, star-studded event:
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. rocked the red carpet in a black and white print shirt and shorts combo, completing his outfit with Kanye-approved oval-shaped sunglasses.
Newly-minted NBA champ JaVale McGee looked right at home in high-fashion Hollywood after recently signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, sporting a stylish black suit with rose-printed lapels and pants, and accessorizing with a red Gucci fanny pack.
Pittsburgh Steelers sophomore standout JuJu Smith-Schuster was stylish and summer-ready in his ensemble, a split tartan tuxedo with cropped jacket sleeves and shorts by The Black Tux. The star wide receiver finished his ensemble with a black bowtie and embroidered loafers sporting his name.
The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles were out in full force at the ESPYs, with some of the team’s more colorful players choosing to go shirtless in the Southern California heat. Cornerback Jalen Mills and safety Rodney McLeod both made bold statements on the carpet, showing off their ripped chests under bright red and purple suits, respectively.
New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce also got in on the colorful suit game, rocking eye-catching — and perfectly-tailored — ensembles.
And it wouldn’t be a red carpet without Adam Rippon serving a look. The Olympic figure skater posed in an embellished white jacket, white shirt, black slacks and a fierce stance.
Of course, it wasn’t just athletes who had eye-catching style at Wednesday’s event. Rapper G-Eazy — fresh off his recent breakup with Halsey — rocked an olive green suit, white shirt and black shoes on the carpet, but all eyes were on his newly-bleached hair. Revenge blonde, anyone?

At the 2018 ESPY Awards, gone was the basic black suit — at least, for the most part. Instead, men opted for daring styles that stood out.
JaVale McGee stood out in a pair of rose-patterned pants with a matching suit jacket. The Los Angeles Lakers star accessorized with a trendy red Gucci fanny pack and dark sunglasses, completing his look with black velvety slippers.

McGee was not the only Lakers star to make a splash on the red carpet style. Kyle Kuzma rejected the standard black tux jacket in favor of a teal, snakeskin-print. The basketball player went simple with his footwear, choosing shiny black shoes.
Another of McGee and Kuzma’s teammates, Josh Hart, made a bold statement with his footwear, keeping his attire simple in an all-black look consisting of a patterned jacket, fitted trousers and a black dress shirt. Hart completed his look with embellished black slippers that added a pop to his otherwise monochrome outfit.
Of course, Lakers stars were not the only men to experiment with their looks at this year’s ESPY Awards.
NFL player Rodney McLeod went bold in a bright purple suit and glittery Chelsea boots. The Philadelphia Eagle went shirtless, showing off his tattooed chest and cross necklace.
McLeod’s teammate Jalen Mills chose a similarly daring look. Like McLeod, he opted for no shirt, flaunting his abs in a red three-piece suit that he paired with matching shoes. Mills accessorized with oversized sunglasses and dyed his usually dark hair a bright Eagles green.
